Piennolo Tomato

These are the renowned  tomatoes of Vesuvius that can be stored, known locally as  "del Piennolo" (“of the pendulum") This Vesuvian tomato  greatly benefits from the volcanic soil and the abundant sunshine . The typical preservation of these tomatoes is in “pendulums”: complete clusters, called  "schiocche"  (snaps), that are arranged on  a strip  of hemp , tied in a circle, to form a single large cluster of several kilogrammes which is kept  hanging from the ground in  a dry, ventilated  place.
